San Diego Open Data Portal

Smart cities are adopting an open data ideology which enables them to be transparent and innovative while being more efficient than ever. We are impressed to see the long list of modern technologies the City of San Diego is utilizing to achieve their smart city goals.

The team behind the Open Data Portal of San Diego had tons of data and a complex approval chain. They saved themselves headaches and the city bundles of money by creating their own website and taking control of their datasets.

See how they’ve refined their process around data access for city operations, including public safety, street repairs, public facilities, code enforcement, business licensing, and more.

A few words with Maksim from City of San Diego...

Could you tell us about your project?
Netlify
Our project had to be able to retain the majority of its functionality offline. We also have to have a fancy dev-stage-prod process because of the multiple approval levels sometimes required.
Maksim Pecherskiy Chief Data Officer
Why did you choose Netlify?
Netlify
Command line deploys are the key feature that allows us to use netlify to manage our dev-stage-prod and approval chain. The built-in hassle free HTTPS also allowed us to test serviceworker offline functionality without setup headeaches.
Maksim Pecherskiy Chief Data Officer
What’s your favorite thing about Netlify?
Netlify

Dirt simple ease of use.

Thank you for making this exist. We have several projects heavily relying on Netlify now, and it saves us a ton of time and headache.
