How Prerender and Netlify work together

The Prerender.io extension for Netlify adds an Edge Function to your site that automatically detects crawler traffic and sends those requests to Prerender’s rendering service. After connecting your Prerender.io API token, everything runs automatically–Netlify handles the routing, and Prerender.io returns fully rendered HTML snapshots for crawlers.

Once connected, users get full access to the Prerender.io platform, including detailed crawler analytics, cache-hit and cache-miss insights, render logs, diagnostics, and complete control over caching rules and expiration. This gives Netlify users a simple setup inside Netlify, paired with the full visibility and tooling of the Prerender dashboard.
