Investing in the open source community has been part of our DNA since the earliest days of Netlify. Today, we’re proud to be a sponsor of npmx, a fast, modern browser for the npm registry.
Daniel Roe and Matias Capeletto have assembled a team of open source all-stars to massively improve the discovery and management of JavaScript and TypeScript packages. This is not a venture-backed startup with a product to sell. It is a true open source community effort to make building software better for all of us.
Philippe Serhal from Netlify has also joined the team as a core contributor.
We’re at an interesting moment in time. AI code generation is starting to look like a threat to traditional open source business models, as programs are getting easier to copy and rebuild from scratch. At the same time, the open source ecosystem of libraries and tools is becoming directly relevant to more and more people, as coding agents help millions of builders become software developers.
Right now, it’s more important than ever that core infrastructure companies in our space come together across competitive boundaries to sponsor and support the open ecosystem that lifts all boats.
The team behind npmx has bold plans, and we’re excited to help make them a reality.
